Laptop Rental

Computer dead and need a loaner? Need something more portable for that important presentation? We have one we can let you borrow. Computer comes with a 100% MS-Office compatible office suite and XP Home. Enough to keep you going until we can fix your PC or we get a new one built for you.

If the loaner was part of the service, then you will only be billed up to estimated time given to fix or build your PC. In other words, if we quote 7 days, and we get the work done in 1, you only pay for the one day, but if it takes three months (only would happen if there is a severe parts shortage), then you only pay for the quoted 7 days but still can use the unit for the entire 3 month period.

Network setup, Wired and Wireless

Set up a network connection between two computers or more computers. Setup for both wireless and wired Windows, Mac, and Linux (wireless setup on select distributions and hardware configurations).

Secure Existing Wireless Connection

Already have a wireless connection, but it's open to the world, allowing some hacker to drive up to your house, and use your network connection to do all kinds of devious things? It's called War Driving, it's similar to War Dialing (or demon dialing, as it was once called) like seen in the movie War Games (which is where this type of scanning attack got it's name).

Call and have us secure it for you today. Last thing you want is your ISP shutting you down because someone used your network connection to crack into other computers or download illegal files from the net.

Enhance Windows Security

Unlike Geek Squad, we do not install "trial" versions of virus scanners, which ask you to buy the full version after 90 days. We do make available virus scanning software for you to purchase, and we will install for free (typical range of this software is $26-$59 for non OEM versions).

Includes training and software. Optional advanced parental controls settings for Vista.

Note: Some aspects of Windows will be altered, but otherwise it will function the same. You will be advised of these alterations prior to them being made. You always have the option to not have any of these changes made to your system.

Enhanced Linux Security, Personal/Workstation

Many Linux distributions, mainly those by Red Hat, could use some additional security improvements. We will disable other services that you are unlikely to use to improve security in your system (some of these services can't be disabled with the graphical tools).

Enhanced Linux Security, Server

Enhances the security of your servers, while still allowing for access to public Internet services. Includes firewall software.

Linux HTTP/FTP, DNS, or Mail Server -- full configuration

Have your own server located in your building. This allows you limitless control over your server configuration, and provides long term cost savings-- you're not renting a server in a room somewhere, you actually own it!

Add as many subdomains as you like, and even configure your server to split load across multiple low-cost DSL connections. Have the equivalent of a T1, or better, for a faction of the cost.

Includes security/firewall. Software installed on a clean hard drive.

System Optimization and Preventative Maintenance

Includes cleaning to prevent system failure and fire, and other maintenance specific to the Operating System (Mac, Windows, and Linux).

Software Install

Install software on a Mac, Windows, or Linux system. Installation fee for compiling a program for Linux varies on the complexity of the software. Some minor poring may need to be done on older Unix software.

Operating system Install

Windows, Mac OS X, or other Operating System Install-- Single boot system, upgrade, or clean single or multi-boot install only. Also applies if installing Linux on a separate hard drive.

Re-install includes transfer of files from old system to new system-- minus programs and other executable files that weren't on your desktop or in your My Documents folder. If there is an excessive amount of data to transfer, we may initiate a few scripts to transfer the data for you, and leave instructions on what to do after the transfer is complete, or walk you through it on the phone. But, if you really want to pay us hourly to babysit your machine...

Dual-Boot Linux on top of existing OS

This only applies if you are installing Linux on the same hard drive that Windows already is on, and your drive only has one partition. Personally, we recommend you spend the extra $55 and get a second hard drive.

Hardware install & Upgrade

Add a hard drive, faster CPU, new sound card, memory, or whatever else you like to your old PC. We'll install it in your computer along with the appropriate system drivers. We'll even clean the inside of your PC at no extra charge.

This rate does not apply to portable computers or Macs due to the difficulty in opening these systems.

Hardware install & Upgrade Mini Macs/PCs & Notebooks

This is the same as the service above, but for computers that are more difficult to open and upgrade. We are able to perform some upgrades on some Mac computers, but none of our techs are certified by Apple at this time.

Hard Drive Backup

Back up your personal files onto DVD discs to protect against data loss. All hard drives fail. Hard drives can also loose data due to software glitches, and power spikes.

*Extra fees associated with onside service are due to the time involved in the backup process. There is a lot of sitting around involved. Fee may be waved if other services are to be performed except on the PC being backed up.

Hard Drive Cleaning/Wipe

Performs an aggressive erase of ALL data on your hard disk, making it almost impossible to recover the data on your hard drive (there is a remote possibility government agencies could recover the data using advanced analysis of the physical drive media). Your hard drive will still be usable after service. This only can be done if your hard drive still works.

Note: Your operating system will be removed from the hard disk and all data on the drive will be lost. It is a good idea to ensure you have your system disks and backup your information prior to this service. We can sell you OEM versions of Windows for your PC as part of "refurbishing" your system-- no hardware purchase neccicarry.

Hard Drive Destruction

Destroys the physical data layer on hard drive making it impossible-- even for the CIA, FBI, NSA, and NASA-- to recover the data on the hard drive. Your hard drive will no loner be usable after service. This is great for the super paranoid. Yes, we accept cash.

Training, home users (home/family lessons)

Training for the whole family, or just one person on any subject: basic computing, applications, photo processing, printing, and even computer programming and web page development.

This is for one person or one family (one mother, one father, biological children, stepchildren, adopted children, foster kids, etc, and no extended family members: grandad, uncles, etc).

Training, Youth (Ages 19 and younger)

Lower rates may be available to those who, due to medical reasons, will not likely be able to work in anything other than a job working on a computer, and the family normally would not be able to afford the full rate. Naturally, charity cases are given the lowest priority, but we will instruct.

Programming lessons are best for Formal Operational children, or those just entering this stage of development. For children under 11, we will perform an evaluation prior to accepting them as a programming student, or you can have a psychologist do so instead.

Group Training (Business)

We can also provide training on systems specific to your environment, contact us for details. We will need access to the system and all related manuals to develop a training program.

Web site design and other web-related services.

PC Repair

Repair any problem with your PC. Most problems are repaired within an hour and a half, or less. Services are billed in half-hour increments. Services also includes general system maintanance.

If we give you an estimate, and we end up running over time, the estimate takes precedence over the hourly rate. Our general recommendation for most software Windows PC problems is simply to reinstall the operating system. That way, any other problems that came about as a result of the existing software failure will also be resolved.
