IMPORTANT WINDOWS VISTA NOTE

(3/29/07)

We have found that many programs that used to run under Windows XP do not run under Windows Vista. Do not trust a tech at the software company or website to give you correct information about Windows Vista compatibility-- the only sure way to know is to try the software on a Windows Vista system.

This has become an issue for some of our clients who purchased Vista machines for their business use, and discovered some important legal software (WINForms) didn't work under Vista. We have also heard reports from a financial adviser who said that his software has been reported by the software developer not to work under Vista. Also, Norton Antivirus requires that you download an updated version of their 2007 virus scanner so that it will work properly under Vista (there will be a yellow insert in the CD case about Vista Compatibility, and it will direct you to a URL where you can download the Vista compatible version).

If you purchased a PC with Windows Vista and find that you can not run your old programs, you will need to either install Windows XP (which can be done with keeping Windows Vista installed), or wait for Vista compatible software patches to be released for your software, if ever.

We do not recommend that you purchase a system with Windows Vista at this time. Wait for another year or two. Yes, you can still purchase new Desktops and Notebooks with Windows XP. We will continue to offer XP for as long as we are able to continue purchasing copies.

Also, for those considering switching to Vista, you should read A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection under Disabled Functionality section. To sum up, some of your hardware may be disabled when attempting to play protected content (music, video)-- or the content may not play at all.
